The annual average temperature is 17.6≧. Its average rainfall is 1735 mm and it has about 270 frost-free days in a year. The annual sunshine is 1780 hours. It is good for crops growth.
Fuzhou is abundant in natural resources. The city covers 18816.92 square kilometers which includes 334,000 hectares of the cultivated lands. The average amount of cultivated land per person is 0.09 hectares. There are 200.1 thousand hectares of irrigation paddy field, 102.7 thousand hectares of field depending on raining, 300 hectares of irrigated land, 18.5 thousand hectares of dry land, 11.9 thousand hectares of vegetable field; There are 3600 hectares of mulberry field which includes 314 thousand hectares of orchards, 2000 hectares of tea gardens; There are 600 hectares of grassland which includes 100 hectares of natural grassland and 100 hectares of improved and 400 hectares of planting manually one; There are 1214.5 thousand hectares of forest land, 62 thousand hectares for residential area and industrial and mining and14.2 thousand hectares for traffic. Water area reaches 93.4 thousand hectares including 53.5 thousand hectares of river, 500 hectares of lake, 23.7 thousand hectares of reservoirs, 8.4 thousand hectares of pounds and 23 million hectares of aqueducts. The water area for breeding accounts for 21.8 thousand hectares. The available land is 137.3 thousand hectares.
There are various mineral resources including over 20 kinds of metal minerals and 30 kinds of metalloid minerals. Non-ferrous metals and noble metal minerals are like gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, wolfram, tin, Molybdenum, bismuth, vanadium, cobalt, tellurium and selenium, etc.. The reserves of gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc and tungsten ore are 10025.5 Kg, 167 tons, 199050 tons, 70585.47 tons, 12470.7 tons and 45492.42 tons. Ferrous metal mineral contains iron and manganese with 3.44536 million tons of iron mine reserves. The radioactive metal contains uranium. A huge ore bed is located in Le¨an including more than 40 ore beds in 4.5 square kilometers. The less-common metals mineral includes 103 tons of niobium and 47 tons of tantalum ore reserves. The metalloid mineral includes 3 million tons of black lead, more than 8 hundred million steres of granite, 4.861 million tons of sulfur iron, 3.5111 million tons of thick crystal, 21.64 million tons of chalk, 12.43 million tons of china clay, 11.60 million tons of silica, 3.85 hundred thousand of fluorite, 8.27 million tons of coal. There are other metalloid minerals like quartz stone, perlite, phosphorus, potassium feldspar, Muscovite, red pillar, agate and so on.
The quantity of water resource amounts to 0.1 billion steres that it includes surface water and ground water. The surface water resource comes from raining that the annual average rainfall amounts to 32.2 billion steres or 1700 mm in the whole city. From Apr. to June, its rainfall accounts for 50% of the whole year. The annual surface water resource is 18.111 billion steres. The groundwater (shallow surface) resource which can be used that has been estimated 5.186 billion steres at present.
In Fuzhou, the plant origin is ancient. Many plants are raw materials for production. There are more than 3000 kinds of higher plants, among which, there are 109 sections, 322 categories and 1018 species of woody plants (including the subspecies, variation and a few cultivated species), 26 sections and 55 kinds of fast-growing tree species with 61% of forest coverage in Fuzhou where is the main wood and bamboo producing area in Jiangxi province. Many rare tree species have been listed in state protection tree species such as metasequoia, Bole tree, Bo Le tree, the ginkgo, cobweb calyx, India laurel, wild soybean, red-bean tree, southern yew and others.
The benign ecological environment is good for wildlife. There are Mammalia, Birds, Amphibia, Reptail, Fish, Mollusc, and Zooplankton and other animal species. There are 7 kinds of first-class state protection wildlife including South China tiger, Panthera pardus, clouded leopard, sika deer , gold cat, yellow abdomen tragopan , white neck & long tail pheasant. The second class state protection wildlife is up to 37 kinds. In Jiangxi province, the rare black bear and red abdomen golden pheasant only survive in Fuzhou city. Zixi County becomes one of two bases for wild breeding South China tiger because of its benign ecological environment.
