¡¡¡¡Fuzhou City has a long history. It was governed by Yangzhou region in XiaYu Time. It belonged to hundred Yue in ChunQiu Time and belonged to Chu in Zhanguo Time. It was named Jiujiang City in Qin Dynasty, then it was changed into Yuzhang City in Han Dynasty. In the 5th year of Gaozu of Han Dynasty (202 B.C.), the governor had built Nancheng County belonged to Yuzhang City. In the 8th year of the Eastern Han Dynasty (96 A.D.), Linru County had been established from Nancheng, the administrative organization of Linru settled down today¡¯s Fuzhou City still belongs to Yuzhang City. In Three Kingdoms Time, the 2nd year of Tai Ping in Wu (257 A.D.), Linchuan city had been set up and the administrative organization being set up in LinRu County. The two Jin Dynasties and the South Dynasty handed down it. Liang and Chen of South Dynasty, Bashan City had been set up that included today¡¯s Chongren, Fengcheng, Yongfeng, Xinjin and other counties. At the beginning, Linchuan belonged to Jiangzhou, then belonged to Gaozhou with Bashan city in Chenwu Emperor Time. In the 9th year of Kaihuang in Sui Dynasty (589 A.D.), the governor had expanded ¡°city¡± into ¡°state¡±, combined Linchuan and some parts of Bashan city to set up Fuzhou City being subordinate to the General Administration of Hongzhou. Fuzhou has been named herefrom it.
¡¡¡¡In Tang Dynasty, Fuzhou belonged to West Administration of Jiangnan. In the Five Dynasties, it had been expanded into Zhaowu belonged to Yang and Wu regions. In Song Dynasty, it had been separated into Fuzhou and Jianchang city which belonged to West Administration of Jiangnan. In Yuan Dynasty, it had been changed to Fuzhou Lu and Jianchang Lu and Nanfeng State belonged to Jiangxi province. In the 22nd year of Zhizheng in Yuan Dynasty (1363 A.D.), Fuzhou Lu had been changed into Linchuan Prefecture and then into Fuzhou Prefecture. At the beginning of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, it still set up Fuzhou and Jianchang Prefecture, Naneng State had been changed into Nanfeng County that belonged to Jiangxi province. In Qing Dynasty, Fuzhou and Jianchang Prefecture still be kept. After the Chinese Revolution of 1911, prefecture was abolished and changed into State directly under the Central Government.
¡¡¡¡In the 2nd year of Republic of China, county system had been practiced throughout the country in 1913. The next year, the whole province marks four drawing 81 counties, every county of Fuzhou and Jianchang Prefecture belonged to Yuzhang Dao system. In the 15th year of Republic of China (in 1916) Dao system had been abolished, every county was subordinate to the provincial government directly. In the 21st year of Republic of China (in 1932), the whole province had been set off 13 administrative areas, every county of the former Fuzhou and Jianchang Prefecture belonged to No. 5, No. 7, No. 8 and No.11 administrative area. From 1930 to 1934, counties such as Lichuan, Zixi, Guangchang, Nanfeng, Yihuang and Le¡¯an successively have founded the regime of Soviet which Belonged to Soviet Area of Fujian-Jiangxi province and Jiangxi province.
¡¡¡¡On May 9, 1949, Chinese People¡¯s Liberation Army liberated Fuzhou City. On July 1, the Fuzhou sub-district was set up. The Inspector-general Prefectural Commissioner¡¯s office of Fuzhou Sub-district of Jiangxi province was stationed in a Linchuan city (today¡¯s Fuzhou City urban area). Fuzhou Sub-district was changed into Fuzhou District on September 13, 1950. In August, 1952, Fuzhou District was changed into Fuzhou Special District. In March, 1967, it was changed into Fuzhou District. In February, 1968, it was called Fuzhou Special District again. On January 22, 1971, it was changed into Fuzhou District again. On June 23, 2000, the State Council official agreed to cancel Fuzhou District and set up city-level Fuzhou City. On October 20, 2000, the People¡¯s Government of Fuhou City was established formally.
