“Linchuan Culture, Chinese Miracle” which is written by Vice-minister Gao Zhanxiang of Ministry of Culture on the Press Conference about “Developing and Expanding Linchuan Culture and building Culture & Art Center of Tang Xianzu” that was hold in People’s Great Hall of Beijing in November, 1992. Feng Zheng who represented Chinese Culture Study Association to point out: “Linchuan culture is a miracle in China culture”.
　　As the special concept of culture, Linchuan culture means the region culture which covers 10 counties and 1district of Fuzhou City. Linchuan district is the key region. It is Chinese treasure and miracle of Chinese culture from the ancient to now.
　　Fuzhou city was called Linchuan prefecture in ancient times. The land is fertile, the climate is mild, the transport is convenient, the commerce is developed and the people are diligent. The elegant scene, developed agriculture, long history, excellent culture and advantageous geographic location which developed splendid “Linchuan culture”. Since Wei & Jin Dynasty, especially two Song Dynasties, Linchuan cultivated numerous celebrities and talents which was called “Home to Talents, Country of Culture”.
　　1、 Famous Celebrities sprout up
　　“Countless Famous scholars sprout up”, since ancient times, numerous scholars of Linchuan got people’s attention upon. According to some data, from Song to Qing Dynasty, only in Linchuan (Fuzhou City), there were more than 2 thousand Jinshi who was successfully passed the highest imperial examination. The talent group has sprung up. Wang Anshi, Tang Xianzu, Zeng Gong, Yan Shu, Yan Jidao, Lu Xiangshan, Yue Shi, Rao Jie, Xie Yi, Xie Guo, Li Gou, Wu Cheng, Ji Dakui, Li Ruiqing, Tan Lun, Chen Ziming, Wei Su, Cai Shangxiang, Wu Yubi, Luo Rufang, Chen Pengnian, Wei Yilin, Deng Maoqi, Xu Fenpeng, Chen Jitai, Luo Wanzao, Zhang Shichun, Ai Nanying, Huang Jueci and Ouyang Jingwu and others are the Outstanding representatives from the talent group in ancient times.
　　In ancient times, the celebrities always met together in Linchuan “Home to talent”. Someone had been government officials in here such as Wang Xizhi, Xie Lingyun, Yan Zhenqing, and Lu You etc., Someone had visited Linchuan and written down many famous poems such as Huang Tingjian, Mei Yaochen, Fan Chengda, Li Zhi, Xu Xiake and others. These scholars had a large amount of magnificent writings or paintings and added splendid miracle for Linchuan culture.
　　In Modern Times, many important officials, scientist and technologist, litterateur, Musician and Doctors studied abroad who are very excellent. Huang Luxiang, Rao Yutai , Zhou Jianping, Zhao Xingnong, Fu Lie, You GuoEn, Xiao Difei, Shu Tong , Li Jingquan, Sheng Zhongguo who were born in Fuzhou City. They are outstanding and make preeminent contribution to richen and develop human civilization.
　　From 1977, the college entrance examination recovered, to 1993, we cultivated 58415 graduates for national universities and colleges and 147 are teenager college students. A large number of students pass the College Entrance Exam into universities and many students obtain prizes in National Contests which is called “Linchuan Phenomenon” by Liu Bin who was the deputy director of National Education Committee. Many scholars, experts and reporters home and abroad come to study and discuss “Linchuan Phenomenon”.
　　2、 Profound Thinking, Reform for development
　　The philosophy in Fuzhou history is the essence of “Linchuan Culture”. The philosophers Li Gou, Wang Anshi, Lu Xiangshan, Wu Cheng, Wu Yubi and Luo Rufang who have formed and developed their philosophies which made brilliant contribution to Chinese culture. And Wang Anshi was called “Chinese reformer of the 11st Century”.

　　3、 Flourishing culture and prosperous plays
　　According to the documents, the authors from Fuzhou City have written about 800 roll of works that were listed in “Si Ku Quan Shu”. So far there is the “Wenchang Bridge” which is the symbol of flourishing “Linchuan Literature”. There are Legends about “Appreciate articles on Wenchang Bridge”, “Competite articles on Wenchang Bridge”, “Shine upon articles on Wenchang Bridge” and so on.
　　In Chinese history of literature, the “Ancient Prose Movement” in the Middle time of Tang Dynasty and Northern Song Dynasty that is Essay Reformation which was leaded by famous “Eight Masters of Tang & Song Dynasty” including Wang Anshi and Zeng Gong who were from Fuzhou city. Especially, Wang Anshi’s theory was unique and his style on practice was distinctive in New Ancient Literature Movement of Song Dynasty. He insisted on “Application First” which opposed aestheticism degeneration of Xikun Sect on theory and practice.
　　Fuzhou City is one of the earliest and the most prosperous regions where appears local operas in South. The South opera takes “Yong Jia Poetic Drama” as the earliest ancestor which was introduced into Nanfeng. At the beginning of Kang Xi in Qing Dynasty, “Er Huang Aria” had been produced in Yi Huang County that was popular in Zhejiang Province and then were extended to Anhui of Hubei Province. The artists improved it and extended all over the whole nation. In Jia Jing period of Qing Dynasty, the minister of the Ministry of War, Tan Lun brought back “Hai Yan Aria” to hometown Yi Huang County. The Picking Tea Opera is the local drama of Fuzhou City, it is very popular in Fuzhou and dramatic field.
　　Nuo Dance is the “living fossil of Chinese ancient dance”, is the “gem of Linchuan culture”. Fuzhou City is the “home of Nuo Dance”. Nanfeng Nuo Dance is the most systematic and complete. So far it is famous all over the world. The drama giant Tang Xianzu of Fuzhou City, his “Linchuan Dreams” including “Peony Pavilion”, “Story of Purple Hairpin”, “Dream of Nanke” and “Dream of Handan” which shows the new peak of short stories development in Ming Dynasty. His plays have been translated into English, Japanese and French and have been performed abroad. Tang Xianzu and British Shakespeare enjoyed equal popularity and was called the “Oriental Shakespeare”.
　　The calligraphy art is splendid in “Linchuan Culture”. The great calligrapher Wang Xizhi in Eastern Jin Dynasty and Yan Zhenqing in Tang Dynasty, they practiced and improved their writing when they were governors in Linchuan. Yan Zhenqing’s script “the story of Magu mountain immortal altar” was recognized as “the First Kai calligraphy”. Zeng Xing, Zhao Chongfan, Chen Jingyuan, Yu Ji, Li Ruiqing are great calligraphers. Shu Tong from Dongxiang County is famous calligrapher in modern times who creates the peculiar “Shu Style” and is called “the first calligrapher of Red Army”.

　　4、 Prosperous Buddhism
　　Buddhist Master Ben Ji of Caoshang Temple in Yihuang County of Fuzhou city established “Caodong Buddhism”. In the 16th year of Jiaqing of Southern Song Dynasty the Japanese Buddhist Master Chengyang came to China to follow the 13rd generation of Caodong Buddhism to study Buddhist law, later, he went back to Japan to build Yong Ping Temple and set up Research Institute of Caodong Buddhism which has been the tie of cultural exchange and friendship between Linchuan and Japan. The Magu Mountain of Nancheng is well-known as Taoism in the South. Besides, the Jinshan Temple, Shushan Temple, Catholic Church, Longfeng Rock and Zhengjue Temple are famous mountains religion temples.

　　5、 Booming Science & technology, thriving economy & culture
　　Science & technology were booming in “Linchuan culture” in ancient times, especially on the Physics, Astronomy, Geography, Medicine, Smelting technology and Printing. Yue Shi, the geographer of Song Dynasty who has 200 rolls of geography works “Taiping Geographical Record” which is the important book for studying our history and geography. The geographer Zhu Siben who spent 10 years in drawing two rolls of “Carriage Map” which is distinguished on geographical history. “Xujiang River Medicine” was important on Jiangxi medicine history. From Song to Qing Dynasty, there were about 200 medical scientists and 100 kinds of medical books along the Xujiang River Counties which were treasures on medical history. The Medical Scientist Wei Yilin of Yuan Dynasty has “Generations’ Prescriptions” that the anaesthetic usage and fracture replacement were the earliest record in the world and were used all over the world now.
　　Rao Yutai who is from Fuzhou city is the famous Physical Scientist in Modern Times. The Ceramics of Fuzhou city was as advanced as Jing De Zhen in ancient times. The printing of woodcuts and flatstone of Jinxi County were distinguished. Besides, the writing paper made up of bamboo of Le’an County, the Brush Pen of Linchuan were the tributes in Qing Dynasty.
　　The agriculture of Linchuan was developed and the land was fertile region. The intelligent people of Fuzhou City have created the unique material culture on farming economic base. The Mandarin Orange of Nanfeng and White Lotus of Guangchang are famous all over the world.

　　6、 The heroic revolution
　　Fuzhou has glorious revolution history. In the Second Revolutionary Civil War period, the people of Fuzhou created many heroic records for “Linchuan culture”. With Jinggang Mountains Revolutionary Base building-up, many counties such as Nanfeng, Yihuang, Guangchang, Le’an, Zixi, and Lichuan became the Red Revolutionary Base. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping and Chen Yi and other Central leaders came to Fuzhou to lead and command revolution and founded the newborn regime of Soviet. Meanwhile, they also wrote a large number of revolutionary articles and poems which made the inherent spirit of “Linchuan Culture” sublimed higher.
In conclusion, from Song to Ming Dynasty, With Chinese politics and cultural center moving to the South and economic development of Jiangnan, Fuzhou had appeared indeed flourishing culture period and many first-class poets, Chinese litterateurs, philosophers, dramatists, geographers, medical scientists, historians had sprung up. They had made great achievements in all kinds of fields and had made great contributions to “Linchuan Culture”.
　　The splendid Fuzhou Culture has not only eminence reputation on Chinese history of culture, but also enjoys good reputation in International at present. Columbia University of USA has set up “Seminar for Fuzhou History” which studies and discusses history and culture of Fuzhou city. Doctor Han Mingshi from USA has published his monograph in USA “Fuzhou Elites of Jiangxi, China in Song Dynasty” in 1985. Japan is the centre that studies Wang Anshi abroad. There are a large number of scholars and books on studying Wang Anshi. Many experts and scholars abroad came to Fuzhou City to visit and explore Tang Xianzu, folk art, Nuo Dance of Nanfeng, public situations and folk-customs. “Linchuan Culture” has affected deeply the world culture.
